Angle poise lamp

One of the things I like about reading what some might term 'heretical' books is that they use a completely different language that I find refreshing, or they take an image I thought I understood and challenge me to consider looking at it from an angle I had never considered. The theological equivalent of downward-facing dog.
Here, for example, is Thomas Moore in Writing in the Sand:
The challenge of the Gospel Jesus is not to believe or obey rules or possess the truth. The real challenge is to metamorphose, an ordinary human being manifesting the Jesus nature. You will feel strong resistance against this Jesus transfiguration. It will seem impractical and self-defeating. But these feelings are precisely the price to be paid for entering what is the most fulfilling kind of life.
