Begin with a single step

We are strange, difficult creatures who long for both freedom and belonging at the same time, and often run a mile when the real thing appears. That is the frontier on which we dwell.
~ David Whyte, Crossing the Unknown Sea

We are always on the frontier, always moving.
We can only tread true paths if we are coming from
a safe, free place.
Otherwise we will tread other people's paths
and worry about getting 'lost'.

There are two kinds of travel lines. Some travel lines, like the intersecting lines of the Four Corners, are removed from place/space and hence do not engage with the land. Other lines, for example dreaming-tracks, follow the contours of the land and link self with place/space. These are fluid lines. When the travel line departs from lines of demarcation and invents its own course, the travel movement is creative...It is in such travel movement that places/spaces of belonging can be created.
~ Carol Leon Movement and Belonging (25).

Our dreamlines connect our life's journey with our soul,
just as they connect our walk with the land.
We must help each other to have wholehearted confidence
in the placement of our feet,
in the opening of our hands.

Love consists in this, that two solitudes protect and border and salute each other.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke
